How Dermal fillers work?
The treatment injects a gel-like substance into your skin. This is a substance that occurs naturally in your body, and helps to keep your tissues lubricated. By injecting this substance in your skin, it adds volume to the area in an instant. This reduces the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, and results in smoother skin texture
How long do results last?
The results of the treatment can last from six to 18 months if natural fillers are used. Synthetic fillers can last for several years. However, this will depend on the size and location of the treated area, desired results, and skin condition. To maintain your desired outcome following the initial Dermal Filler Injections, you will need successive top-up injections every three to six months afterwards
What to do before dermal filler injections?
To ensure that you achieve your desired outcomes, we recommend that you:
- Avoid acne medications and other skincare products that can make your skin
sensitive.
- Avoid blood-thinning medications and other supplements that can increase your risk
of bleeding.
- Avoid waxing or tweezing the area to be treated
How are dermal filler injections performed?
Before the treatment, you will have a consultation with Dr Laniewski at one of our Sydney, Central Coast, or Albury/Wodonga clinics. Dr Laniewski will perform a skin assessment and gather an understanding of your medical history to inform your individualised treatment plan.
During the procedure, the target skin area will be cleaned with an antiseptic, and Dr Laniewski will inject a local anaesthetic to reduce the feeling of any pain. Dr Laniewski will then inject the filler into the target area and check the placement of the filler as well as its effects after each injection. Following the procedure, the area will be wiped with clean gauze to remove excess solution and blood, where present. To reduce swelling and discomfort, an ice pack is usually applied to the treated area. The entire process usually takes 30 to 60 minutes to complete.
What is the recommended amount of dermal filler?
This will depend on the location and size of the target area, and Dr Laniewski will also take into account your skin condition. Dr Laniewski will inject the least amount of Dermal Filler required to achieve your desired outcome so as to not overfill the skin.
What to expect after the treatment?
After the treatment, it is normal to experience redness and localised bruising. The injection site may also look sore, but you can resume your daily activities immediately afterwards. You will notice some immediate results, but may need to wait for a few weeks to see the full effects of the Dermal Filler Injections.
To prevent complications, you should:
- Avoid direct sun exposure
- Avoid smoking
- Avoid alcohol
- Avoid intense cold
- Avoid makeup for 24 hours
- Avoid saunas
- Avoid strenuous activities
- Drink plenty of water
- Sleep with your head higher than your chest to prevent swelling
- Use an ice pack over the area
What is the difference between dermal fillers and botulinum toxin injections?
While both methods help reduce the appearance of age-induced wrinkles and lines, their
actions are different. Dermal Fillers fill the skin by adding volume via injection of a special gel. Botulinum Toxin (anti-wrinkle) Injections use a substance that relaxes the muscles responsible for wrinkle formation. Dermal Fillers also produce longer-lasting results than Botulinum Toxin Injections.
