Brow Lift

It can be disheartening for some people to be told they appear harsh or stern when in actuality they have a friendly and happy disposition. Often, the misunderstanding is due to the presence of a heavy brow resulting in forehead furrows or skin that impacts on the appearance of the eyes. A brow lift, also known as a forehead lift, is the simple surgical solution that will result in a more youthful and relaxed appearance.

A prominent brow can be the result of genetics, over-active forehead muscles, stress, and exposure to environmental factors such as harsh sunshine. A brow lift will improve appearance in a number of ways:

  • Reducing horizontal wrinkle lines on the forehead
  • Improving and reducing frown lines between the eyebrows
  • Removing lines from the bridge of the nose
  • Raising hooded and sagging skin above the eyelids
  • Creating a more youthful and alert appearance

BROW LIFT PROCEDURES

The two brow lift methods used are the traditional classic lift and the recently introduced endoscopic lift. A classic brow lift is performed by your surgeon making a discreet continuous incision around the hairline and ears, placed to avoid any visible scarring.

An endoscopic lift involves the surgeon making a series of shorter cuts in the scalp at the hairline. A miniature camera is then inserted to visually determine the areas where the brow needs lifting. Small anchors are put in place to secure underlying brow tissue and restore a smooth outer-skin surface. As an endoscopic lift is less invasive, there will be a shorter recovery time. The operation can be performed under local or general anaesthetic, and will take a couple of hours. You will need someone else to drive you home.

YOUR CONSULTATION

Dr Laniewski is one of the most renowned cosmetic surgeons in Sydney and surrounding areas, with facial reconstruction one of his specialities. In his capable hands, a successful brow lift outcome is easily achieved. He will discuss your expectations and evaluate your forehead and other facial features. A brow lift can be a stand-alone surgery, or performed in conjunction with a facelift, necklift, or eyelid contouring surgery. Filler injections can also optimise results. A brow lift is suitable for anyone in good physical health. Smokers will need to cease for a few weeks before and after surgery as smoking can inhibit healing or cause infection.

RECOVERING AFTER A BROW LIFT

You will initially return home to recover with your forehead taped or bandaged to minimise bruising or swelling. These dressings will be removed within a day or two. In some cases, a tube will be used to drain fluids. This will also be removed within a couple of days. Instructions your surgeon provides for recovery can include prescribed medications for healing and pain relief, care for the surgical site and any follow up expectations. You may also be instructed to keep your head elevated and stable during the initial healing phase. A cold press is an invaluable aid in stifling headaches or discomfort.

The initial wound will take a few weeks to fully heal, and any numbness, swelling or bruising will diminish during this time. Return to work is usually within two weeks, or whenever comfortable and without undue movement if working from home. You can use cosmetics to camouflage bruising while you continue to heal.

Healing should be steady and progressive, but it may be a couple of months before complete recovery and fading of any incision lines.

Your smoother forehead and younger appearance will be noticeable during initial healing, and fully appreciated within a couple of months. And best of all, people will see you for who you really are, without getting distracted by unwanted furrows or lines.
