Brow Lift Sydney NSW

It can be disheartening for anyone to be told that they have a harsh, stern or angry-looking appearance. Particularly when in actuality they have a friendly and happy disposition. Often, the misunderstanding is due to the presence of a heavy brow resulting in forehead furrows or skin that has an impact on the appearance of the eyes.  As we age, the brow can descend and result in the face looking heavy, tired or permanently stern.

A brow lift, also known as a forehead lift, is a surgical solution that will result in a more youthful and relaxed appearance. A brow lift will not be able to remove wrinkles on the forehead, as these are the result of actions of the muscles in the forehead.

A prominent and drooping brow can be the result of genetics, over-active forehead muscles, stress, and exposure to environmental factors such as harsh sunshine. Even the constant glare from the water can take a toll on your brow.

A brow lift will improve appearance in a number of ways:

  • Reducing horizontal wrinkle lines on the forehead
  • Improving and reducing frown lines between the eyebrows
  • Removing lines from the bridge of the nose
  • Raising hooded and sagging skin above the eyelids
  • Creating a more youthful and alert appearance

Brow Lift Surgery – Dr Peter Laniewski

BROW LIFT PROCEDURES

The procedure of choice is an endoscopic brow lift.

An endoscopic lift involves the surgeon making a series of shorter cuts in the scalp at the hairline. A miniature camera is then inserted. This will help your surgeon to visually determine the areas where the brow needs lifting. Small anchors are put in place to secure the underlying brow tissue and restore a smooth outer-skin surface. As an endoscopic lift is much less invasive, there will be a shorter recovery time. The operation is performed under general anaesthetic, and will take a couple of hours. You will need someone to drive you home once you have recovered from the anaesthetic.

A brow lift can be a stand-alone surgery. A brow lift can also be combined with a facelift, neck lift, or eyelid contouring surgery. Adding in filler injections can also optimise results. A brow lift is a good option for anyone in good physical health. Smokers will need to cease for a few weeks before and after surgery, as smoking can inhibit healing or lead to an increased potential for infection.

RECOVERING AFTER A BROW LIFT

You will initially return home to recover with your forehead taped or bandaged to minimise bruising or swelling.

Post operative LED Light Therapy is strongly recommended to decrease your downtime and speed healing immediately after your surgery. The treatment is convenient and can be combined with your post operative visits. Lasting only 13 minutes and completely painless, LED Light Therapy is clinically proven to dramatically reduce the swelling and bruising that can occur after your surgery. Please speak to Dr Laniewski or one of his consultants to book in your treatment.

Instructions your surgeon provides for recovery can include prescribed medications for healing and pain relief, care for the surgical site and any follow up expectations. Your head should remain elevated during the initial recovery period.

A cold compress is an invaluable aid in stifling headaches or discomfort.

The initial incision will take a few weeks to fully heal. Any numbness, swelling or bruising will diminish during this time. You will be able to return to work typically within two weeks, or whenever comfortable and without undue movement if you are working from home. You can use cosmetics to camouflage bruising while you continue to heal.

Healing should be steady and progressive, but it may be a couple of months before you have completely recovered and your incisions lines have completed faded.

Your smoother forehead and younger appearance will be noticeable during initial healing, and fully appreciated within a couple of months. The best benefit is that people will see you for who you really are without getting distracted by unwanted furrows or lines.

How long will brow lift results last?

As you continue to age, your brow will continue to droop even after a successful brow lift. However, a future brow lift is always a consideration so that you can maintain your results.

Am I a candidate for a brow lift?

The perfect candidate for a brow lift is an individual who has brows that have started to descend, resulting in a brow or upper eyelid area that has a tired and heavy appearance.

You should be in good overall health, and avoid smoking and excessive use of alcohol. These factors can lead to healing delays and the potential risk of infection.

What can I expect during recovery?

The majority of patients that undergo the brow lift procedure mention having a minor headache for the hours after the surgery. Patients rarely need pain medication after the first night.

Most patients are able to return to normal activities and work within seven and ten days following the surgery. Bruising can happen but it’s not common. Swelling is typically mild.
